Manufacturers are living up to their pledge to design and build high quality, long lasting vehicles. This has resulted in a greater number of high mileage vehicles on the roads. Long gone are the days of taking a 100,000 mile vehicle to the scrap yard.  In many cases, with proper maintenance and repairs, these vehicles can easily make 200,000 to 300,000 miles plus.

The downfall of high mileage vehicles is that their value drops as the miles rise. That has to be taken into consideration when making decisions on repairing and maintaining these vehicles. I have seen two different schools of thought, when it comes to vehicle repair as the odometer reaches 100,000 miles.

Half of the crowd demands that we use factory replacement parts when dealing with an inevitable breakdown. Their thinking is that the original lasted 100,000 miles, so if I replace it with the same thing I should get another 100,000 miles out of the new one. In many cases the factory replacement parts come with the best warranty, some of them even last a lifetime, and factory replacement parts always include labor coverage. The draw back of factory replacement parts is that they are usually at the high end of the price scale. All of these factors have to be considered when deciding to use factory replacement parts VS aftermarket replacements.

That brings us to the other half of the crowd. Their thinking is that the vehicle is not worth as much as the new ones and would like to have the vehicle repaired as economically as possible, and this will require the use of aftermarket parts in most cases. These parts are mass produced by non-factory manufacturers, and may not have the quality of the factory parts, but still serve their purpose. Their warranties are usually not as strong as the factory replacements, but in many case the cost savings maybe worth the chance. Over the years we have installed thousands of aftermarket parts in thousands of vehicle, which resulted in satisfied customers. Depending on your school of thought aftermarket replacement parts may be your best option.

I am not attempting to persuade our customers one way or the other when it comes to parts, because we offer both. We are happy to help customers make the decision that is best for them. I would like to persuade our customers to keep Don Nester Auto Group in mind when it comes to maintaining and repairing their 100,000 mile plus vehicles.
